Mask Mandate Repealed in Hamden

February 25, 2022

Last night, Mayor Garrett repealed the Town of Hamden's mask mandate. The repeal took effect at 12:01AM today. This means that you will no longer be required to wear a mask when out in Hamden at restaurants or otherwise. Note that a private business can still decide if masks will be required on its premises. Also, until further notified, Hamden will still require masks in town-owned buildings. As for schools, that is a decision to be made by the Board of Education, as explained below.

School Specific Information

This announcement and subsequent repeal, comes just ahead of the February 28th deadline for local Boards of Ed. to decide whether or not masking will be required in district schools. Our Superintendent of Schools, Jody Goeler said that the Town's Board of Ed. will make a decision during a special meeting on Monday, February 28th at 6:30PM.
