It's been a busy week at the Capitol filled with public hearings and committee meetings. If you'd like to get involved in the legislative process, I encourage you to participate in public hearings. There are a number of public hearings next week! See below for the schedule:
You can register to testify and find more detail on next week’s public hearings, including the bills that will be heard, in the CGA Bulletin. You can access the Bulletin here. |

This week, I testified before the Human Services Committee during a public hearing on S.B. 248, An Act Increasing the Age from Eight to Eighteen for an Income-Eligible Person to Obtain Medical Assistance Regardless of Immigration Status. This bill proposal would expand eligibility for Connecticut's HUSKY program to ensure that all children have access to preventative care and necessary treatment. Access to healthcare is a human right and no child should be denied access based on immigration status. Watch my testimony below: |

The Public Health Committee held a public hearing on Wednesday where testimony was heard on H.B. 5261, An Act Increasing Access to Reproductive Health Care. CT is attempting to join 14 other states in allowing all advanced practitioners to provide abortions. In addition to this proposal expanding access, we learned at the Public Hearing that this is a matter of continuity of care. Click below to hear my remarks on this: |

Connecticut and the nation have seen gas prices increase at an alarming rate during this time of global unrest and the effect of market volatility on commodity prices. While price fluctuations are expected, there are some unscrupulous businesses that exploit these conditions to gouge consumers at the pump. |
|
The practice of charging unconscionably high prices immediately before market disruptions that cannot be attributed to additional costs is illegal in our state.
If you believe a business is engaging in price gouging, you may file a report with the Office of the Attorney General online at https://www.dir.ct.gov/ag/complaint/ or call 860-808-5318. |

Part of our efforts to keep our constituents informed on issues relating to the utility companies is passing along notices where public participation is encouraged.
As a result of Section 1 of Public Act 20-5, the Take Back Our Grid Act, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) will have an open proceeding to investigate, develop, and adopt a framework for implementing performance-based regulations for the electric distribution companies in Connecticut – Eversource and United Illuminating.
A virtual Public Listening Session will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 6:30PM and the public and non-traditional stakeholders are encouraged to participate and offer comments. |
