State Bond Commission Approves $1 Million for Stamford High School Athletic Fields Project

July 29, 2022

Members of the Stamford Legislative Delegation including Senators Pat Billie Miller (D – Stamford) and Ryan Fazio (R – Greenwich) and State Representatives Corey P. Paris (D – Stamford), Dan Fox (D – Stamford), Matt Blumenthal (D – Stamford), Hubert Delany (D – Stamford), David Michel (D – Stamford), Kimberly Fiorello (R – Greenwich, Stamford) laud the Connecticut State Bond Commission's approval of a $1 million grant-in-aid to the City of Stamford for rehabilitation and improvements to Stamford High School athletic fields.

The Commission approved funding during its meeting on Friday.

The city was previously awarded $2 million in March to make upgrades to the existing Stamford High School baseball and softball fields, as well as construct two new fields for lacrosse and field hockey. This additional $1 million will help the city complete the remainder of the project.

"Upgrades to Stamford High School's athletic field will provide opportunities for our high school athletes to hone their skills and improve their athletic performance," said Sen. Miller. "I am thankful we are doing what we can as a state to make the improvements necessary to give our students an athletic space they not only deserve but will also give them a sense of school pride."

“From these improvements to the Stamford High fields to others across our city, I am proud of our delegation’s bipartisan, team effort on behalf of our community,” said Sen. Fazio. “These are prudent investments in key assets which will benefit citizens throughout Stamford for years to come.”

"I am proud to have led this effort to secure the funds on behalf of our delegation and am thankful to have supportive community partners. Our delegation remains committed to expanding opportunity and access for all Stamford residents, especially in our schools," said Rep. Paris.

“This is great news for Stamford, especially for our students and young people,” said Rep. Fox. “These funds will provide a crucial boost in the ongoing efforts to provide our student-athletes with the most modern, safe fields to play on that we can. I want to thank the State Bond Commission and, in particular, Governor Lamont and my colleagues from the Stamford delegation for their dedicated efforts in ensuring this money was included on the agenda.”

"Stamford High students and athletes deserve to practice and play on safe, high-quality playing fields," said Rep. Blumenthal. "I was proud to join the Stamford delegation in supporting this bonding request, which will help ensure that goal becomes reality."

"Our student-athletes should have access to quality playing fields and this funding will make that possible. Thank you to the Stamford Delegation, Governor Lamont, and State Bond Commission for supporting this investment in our school," said Rep. Michel.

"These upgrades will provide our student-athletes with a safer place to practice and hone their skill for years to come,” said Rep. Delany. “I would like to thank my colleagues in the Stamford Delegation for their efforts in securing this funding and Governor Lamont and the State Bonding Commission for their support."

“I support these funds for Stamford High School, which will go a long way toward helping our youth, who are the future of our community. Improving the sports fields at Stamford High School will help sharpen the skills of our student athletes, while giving them an essential space that fosters teamwork and sportsmanship," said Rep. Fiorello.
