Windsor Youth Services Bureau
Babysitter Training Course
 
 
 
 
What: The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Class is designed to teach participants how to respond to emergencies with first aid, rescue breathing, make good decisions under pressure, communicate effectively with parents, and much more! Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certification card.
 
When/Where: Saturday, October 1 from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Millbrook Clubhouse at 147 Pigeon hill Road. 
 
Ages: 11 to 17 years old.

Windsor Senior Center
Senior Health Fair and Flu Shot Clinic
 
 
 
 
What: Windsor residents age 50 and over, and disabled adults age 18 and over, will be able to receive their flu shot, as well as a variety of other health related screenings and tests. The Windsor Health Department (WHD) will be there to administer the flu shot. WHD has Fluarix and Flulaval vaccines which are both Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccines. Additionally, Stop and Shop Pharmacy will be administering the high dose Quadrivalent flu shot.
 
When/Where: Thursday, October 6 from 8:30 AM to noon at the Windsor Senior Center.
 
Ages: 50 and older and disabled adults 18 and over.
 
Flu Shot/Insurance Information: Please bring all your insurance coverage cards with you: Medicare, Medicare HMO card and standard insurance card. The cost without insurance will be $30.00 for flu shots. A list of accepted insurance plans is included on the consent form. The fee for a high dose Quadrivalent flu shot if there is no insurance coverage is $100 (cash or check only).
 

 

Northwest Park
Full Moon Hike
 
 
 
 
What: Come to Northwest Park on Sunday, October 9th for a guided Full Moon Hike from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM to enjoy the beautiful trails and the full “Hunter Moon” of October. 
 
When/Where: Sunday, October 9 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Northwest Park, 145 Lang Road.
 
Ages: 12 years old and up.
 
Registration: Fee for this program is $12 person (Windsor resident) $16 per person (Nonresidents). Please register online, space is limited.

Senior Oktoberfest
 
 
 
 
What: On Monday, October 10, CRT will not be serving lunch, as they are closed to observe Indigenous Peoples Day. The Senior Center has you covered though! We will celebrate Oktoberfest from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm in place of daily CRT lunch.  Enjoy traditional German fare, German-inspired music and be sure to wear your lederhosen, to fully embrace the German culture. Sign up online or in-person.
 
When/Where: Monday, October 10 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Windsor Senior Center.
 
Ages: 55 and better.

Decoupage
 
 
 
 
What: Decoupage is a crafting technique of affixing decorative paper to a hard surface with glue. With help from instructor Carol McOmber, create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind flower pot decoration using colorful napkins and decoupage material with other seniors during this session. Your functional artwork is yours to take home. 
 
When/Where: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, October 11 at the senior center. 
 
Ages: 55 and better.

Mother-Daughter Circle
 
 
 
 
What: The Windsor Youth Services Bureau is offering a cycle of Mother/Daughter Circle which is a dynamic weekly program for mothers or female guardians to strengthen their bonds with their daughter. Dinner is provided.
 
When/Where: This program meets weekly for eight weeks at the Millbrook Clubhouse at 147 Pigeon Hill Road beginning October 17th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
 
Ages: Mothers and daughters in grades 5 - 8.

Northwest Park
Night at the Museum
 
 
 
 
What: On this one special night of the year you’re invited to take a tour of the Nature Center after dark as you meet costumed creatures that call Northwest Park home. Join us for this unique educational & theatrical walk-through as these nocturnal creatures share their stories with you. It won’t be spooky or scary, so bring the family for a night of nature and fun! Participants will take home a packet with additional learning activities and mini pumpkin for decomposition experiment.
 
When/Where: Saturday, October 22 at Northwest Park, 145 Lang Road.
 
Ages: 5-12 years old + caregivers.
 
Registration: $5 Windsor Residents; $7 Nonresidents. Registration required.

Windsor Instructional Basketball league (WIBL)
 
 
 
 
What: Registration is underway for the Windsor Instructional Basketball League and continues through December 3 at the L.P. Wilson Community Center or online at townofwindsorct.com. Clinics will be held in December and registration will not be accepted at the clinics. 
 
When/Where: Begins January 2 at the L.P. Wilson Community Center.
 
Ages: Windsor youth in grades 2 through 12. 
 
Registration: $60.00 per player if registered by December 3, after which there will be a $15.00 late registration fee. Registrations accepted until December 10, if space allows. Register online or at the Recreation Office at the L.P. Wilson Community Center.

Adult Open Gym
 
 
 
 
What: Looking for something Fun to do in the evenings or on Sundays? Adult Open Volleyball meets Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:45 PM to 9:00 PM. Badminton meets on Sundays from 9am-12pm. New this season we will have adult Pickleball on Sundays from 1pm-3pm. The fees are $1.00 for residents and $2.00 for non-residents. 
 
New Location: Adult Open Basketball will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center. The fees are $1.00 for residents and $2.00 for non-residents. For more information please contact Recreation office at (860) 285-1990.

DIY Plant a Promise Kits
 
 
 
 
What: In celebration of Red Ribbon Week (October 23 – 31) we’re delivering red tulip kits to your house so you can plant a promise (that will bloom in the spring) to live a healthy and drug-free life. Red Ribbon Week is a national effort in which we raise awareness in the community about drug abuse.
 
Each kit will include 10 red tulip bulbs, 1 bulb planting tool, and Red Ribbon Week giveaways. We will send you an instructional YouTube video that explains the entire process for planting the tulips. Kits will be dropped off the week of October 24. All virtual, no in-person participation. Limited to one box per household. Free.
