Rep. Gilchrest Tapped to Co-Chair Legislature's Data Privacy Task Force

October 12, 2022

State Representative Jillian Gilchrest (D – West Hartford) has been appointed to serve as co-chair alongside Senator James Maroney (D – Milford) on the Connecticut General Assembly's Data Privacy Task Force, which held its first meeting Wednesday.

The task force was established through legislation passed during the 2022 session to better protect personal data privacy. The task force is charged with studying information sharing among health care and social care providers and making recommendations to eliminate health disparities and inequities across sectors and algorithmic decision-making, and making recommendations concerning the proper use of data to reduce bias in this decision-making, among other things.

"In this post-Dobbs era when the right to privacy is in flux, I am so pleased to be taking part in these important conversations," said Rep Gilchrest. "We want to ensure that people's private information, in particular women's reproductive healthcare decisions, are protected. I'm looking forward to learning more and proposing policies that can help us do that."

The task force is required to submit a report on its findings and recommendations to the General Law Committee by January 2023.
