Dear Neighbor,

I'm honored to continue to serve as the State Representative of the 57th House District. And last week, I was especially honored to have my family join me as I was sworn in for the new term!

I am humbled by this work, the job, the magnitude of the work ahead and the importance of staying grounded and connected to my community at home.

I'm proud to do this work each and every day, but Wednesday was extra special as a member of the freshman class that began serving at the height of pandemic. Lovingly known as the "COVID Class," it was nice to be able to finally share the building and the energy of the Capitol with my family. I hope my daughter in particular understands a little more about the work that keeps me from home many late nights.

My daughter is still young and thinks the building is a castle, but each day I work to make the world better for her and for your kids.

I'm honored to continue to serve and eager to get to work!

Remembering our Friend & Colleague
Sadly, after beginning the week with such celebration following Opening Day, we learned that State Representative Quentin "Q" Williams died tragically in a car accident. I am still reeling from this tremendous loss.

Nearly a decade ago, my husband and I started attending meetings with Young Democrats of Connecticut. I was interested in school nutrition food policy and sought friends similarly passionate about ensuring every child had an excellent opportunity for success in school. One of those dear friends was Q Williams.

Q was an example of what a public servant should be. He cared passionately about his community, about people, families, and children. His leadership demonstrated an unwavering dedication to making his community and our state a better place.

Q was the kind of person you didn't just call a friend, he called you. He stayed in touch, he showed unwavering support, celebrating your accomplishments together and grieving losses. He built coalitions around issues we all cared about, drawing on shared humanity. He had a skill at delivering honesty and accountability in hard situations too, asking the right questions, and reminding you of what you might be overlooking.

Q was a smart and compelling leader who was a kind of humble and down to earth that people don't always expect from someone in politics. He was the embodiment of people over politics, we before me and he'd make sure others focused that way too.
I will always remember his kindness and commitment to our state and am grateful to have received one of his wonderful hugs yesterday.

Today, as Aaron and I continue to grieve our friend we are thinking about his wife Carissa and his mom Queen. We will do our part to make sure his memory is always a blessing and consider ourselves lucky to have memories of Q to hold close.
Sending love to Carissa, Queen, the City of Middletown, and all the public servants who loved and admired Q.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Thank you to our law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line every day to keep our state safe!

Meeting on Crumbling Foundations in Municipal Buildings
Last week, I had a meeting to continue working with my regional colleagues on tackling the issue of crumbling foundations in municipal buildings. I've been proud to serve the last few years as the Co-Chair of the Crumbling Foundations Caucus and look forward to continuing to tackle this issue.

Check out the Non-Residential Foundation Report here

Meeting with the Connecticut Office of Consumer Council & PURA
I also joined my colleagues in the legislature, and the Connecticut Office of Consumer Council in a meeting led by Commissioner Gillette of the Public Utility Regulatory Authority.

We met with our counterparts in Massachusetts as we share Eversource as an electricity company to discuss rate increases.

As the Vice Chair of the Energy and Technology Committee I look forward to taking this challenge head on. You can find a recording of our meeting here
