Support for Batterson Park Restoration

April 6, 2023

I am proud to support all the cleanup and restoration work taking place at Batterson Park. Crews are in the process of transforming this green space into a destination. They are working on tearing down several smaller buildings to make way for new development in the park.

Speaker of the House Matt Ritter is proposing to designate Batterson as a state park, which would pave the way for massive and much-needed change. Currently, the city of Hartford owns the park, which lies in parts of Farmington and New Britain. If we’re successful in making Batterson a state park, the state would be responsible for maintenance and management. This move would allow us to speed up the process to reopen the park in time for summer.

The goal has always been to safely reopen Batterson Park with new facilities. As you can see from the pictures from my recent visit, there is still plenty of work to be done.

Experts will be testing the water to make sure it is safe for swimmers. Officials are also reviewing options for restoring the beach.

I spent my childhood enjoying Batterson Park with my friends and family, and my hope is for everyone to have that same opportunity.

House Speaker Matt Ritter, my colleagues, and I are hoping to have a framework in place by mid-April and to bring the proposal to a vote by the end of the legislative session on June 7.
