I-95 South is shut down and is expected to remain closed over the Gold Star Bridge following a deadly fuel tank rollover crash. The bridge is a lifeline to our community, but I am urging everyone to avoid this area at all costs and to find alternate routes. Please drive slowly on our local roads and expect significant delays.

The Gold Star (southbound) Bridge will continue to be closed due to the damage caused by the fire. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will be assessing the damage from this morning’s huge fire.

Connecticut State Police, DEEP, and Governor Ned Lamont spoke at a live news conference to share information regarding the fuel tanker explosion. I attended the briefing along with Rep. Christine Conley and Mayor Keith Hedrick. Groton Town Police and Groton City Fire were also in attendance.

I want to thank all the firefighters and other first responders who rushed to help at the scene and prevented any further tragedy. At one point, every firefighter in the area was called in to help. Their response made a huge difference. My heart goes out to all of you.
