Representative Paris Attends White House States Convening on Child Care

91 legislators, including 4 from Connecticut, were invited

State Representative Corey Paris (D-Stamford) visited Washington D.C. on Wednesday for the White House States Convening on Child Care. Rep. Paris joined 90 state legislators from 41 states across the country, as well as First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, to discuss childcare policy achievements from their respective legislative sessions. The group of lawmakers explored different legislative strategies to make childcare more affordable for working families, increase childcare provider supply, and improve job quality for childcare workers.

"I am thrilled and honored to be part of the White House States Convening on Child Care," said Rep. Paris. "This gathering is a testament to the importance we place on investing in our children's future and ensuring they have access to quality early education and care. By collaborating with leaders from across the nation, we can create innovative solutions that will positively impact the lives of countless families. Together, we will build a brighter and more prosperous future for our children, empowering them to reach their full potential."

Rep. Paris was joined by three colleagues from the Connecticut House of Representatives – Representatives Michelle Cook (D-Torrington), Mary Welander (D-Orange, Derby, Hamden, Woodbridge), and Kara Rochelle (D- Ansonia, Derby).

In the 2023 legislation session, the Connecticut General Assembly passed a state budget, which promises to bring expanded child care services by cutting business taxes. The budget also funds pay raises for licensed and unlicensed providers.

Rep. Paris represents Stamford's 145th District.
