National Hire A Veteran Day
July 25, 2023Today is National Hire A Veteran Day, which is a call to action for businesses to hire more of our nation’s heroes. About 200,000 military members retire or separate from the armed services every year, and the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) offers services to help them find jobs including creating resumes.

Veterans receive priority reemployment services from trained staff at American Job Centers (AJCs) throughout the state. Staff offer specialized services to veterans reintegrating into civilian life, assist veterans in identifying careers after military service, and help veterans match their unique skills to jobs in demand by Connecticut employers. Additionally, staff work with the state’s employers to source and identify jobs for veterans and create networks between veterans and employers.

As a veteran who served in the United States Marines Corps, I understand the challenges of returning to the workforce after serving overseas. I encourage all employers to look to hire veterans and for our service members and veterans to use the resources in place to improve their odds of landing a new job in Connecticut.
