Children's Urgent Crisis Center in New London
Last week there was an amazing and historic day in the City of New London, Connecticut. I am so happy to be part of the numerous hands that helped bring the Children's Urgent Crisis Center to Southeastern CT.
Connecticut's new children's crisis center brings several important benefits to Southeastern Connecticut.
By providing crucial support and services to children and families in the region who are experiencing mental health issues or crises.
● Offers immediate assistance and intervention for children facing emotional distress, trauma, or psychiatric emergencies. This timely response is crucial in preventing the escalation of mental health conditions and ensuring that children receive appropriate care and support during a critical time in their lives.
● Helps to alleviate the strain on emergency departments and hospitals in Southeastern Connecticut. Previously, children in need of mental health services would often end up in emergency rooms, which are ill-equipped to handle mental health crises. With the dedicated children's crisis center, emergency departments can redirect these cases to a specialized facility, ensuring that children receive targeted mental health care and reducing the burden on hospitals.
● Plays a vital role in reducing the stigma surrounding mental health in the region. By providing a designated space for children to receive mental health services, the center normalizes seeking help and encourages open conversations about emotional well-being. This can have a positive impact on Southeastern Connecticut, leading to increased awareness, early intervention, and improved outcomes for children dealing with mental health challenges.
● The crisis center serves as a hub for coordination and collaboration between various healthcare and social service providers in the region. It facilitates communication and information sharing to ensure that children receive integrated and comprehensive care. Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut

Catching up with New London Public Works Employees
I happened to be home last week when City of New London, Connecticut Public Works came through. Got a chance to say hi and see the newer truck they are using. All three workers talked about how the newer truck in use was much better. Big Shout out for the workers that do their best to help our community look better. Thank You Public Works for doing what you do.

500 Apartment Coming to New London
500 apartments, six-story garage at Fort Trumbull City of New London, Connecticut
New London — The Planning & Zoning Commission on Wednesday is expected to discuss and possibly approve a New Haven-based real estate developer’s plans to build 500 new apartments and a six-story parking garage on the Fort Trumbull peninsula.
According to an Aug. 28 application, the 247,450-square-foot Nameaug Street phase, part of a larger parcel north of Chelsea Street, will include 251 apartments — 44 studio, 136 one-bedroom and 71 two-bedroom units— and 234 parking places.
The 251,600-square-foot Walbach Street project site, located across the street from the city’s water treatment plant, will be home to 249 apartment units — 43 studios, 131 one-bedroom and 75 two-bedroom units — and 234 parking spaces.
Both apartment complex sites are nestled in the city’s maritime district and the city’s opportunity zone, the latter which offers tax-free appreciation and deferred capital gains if certain conditions are met by developers.
The complexes will include outdoor amenities such as fire pits and seating areas with interior spaces set aside for offices, fitness centers and community rooms, according to the site plan applications.

Deborah Monahan Retirement
Big big thank you to Deborah Monahan on your retirement after 50 years of service. You are so appreciated for all you have done and returned to our community in service. Connecticut could never repay you for all you have done. I and many pray & wish you two fold in what's next to come.
Deborah's retirement will be celebrated with a fundraiser dinner at The Spa at Norwich Inn on Sept. 28 at 5:30. The event costs $55 per person and the money will go toward the Client Support Fund, which lets TVCCA assist people when there isn’t a specific program to cover their need. For example, it may pay when a client needs money for a car repair in order to get back to work or needs help paying for medication, Monahan said. (See link to article below).
