$22.5 Million CIF Grant for Demolition of Decommissioned PSEG Coal Plant

September 26, 2023

Great news! I am happy to announce that the State of Connecticut's Community Investment Fund 2030 (CIF) has approved a $22.5 million grant application to fund the demolition and abatement of the decommissioned PSEG Harbor Station coal plant in Bridgeport.

Taking down the plant will remove the blighting influence it has on the neighborhood and reconnects the city to the harbor with the goal of preparing the site for further remediation and development.

Since the PSEG site is no longer zoned for industrial uses, it is prime for future mixed-use development, including housing and commercial retail that will complement the other developments around Bridgeport Harbor.

My sincere thanks to Governor Ned Lamont for all his supportive efforts, including the belief that future development of the site will spur economic development in Bridgeport and the region.

Final approval by the State Bond Commission, which is chaired by Governor Lamont and next meets on Oct. 6 in Hartford, is required for all CIF programs.
