Tuesday's Medicaid rally at the Capitol was part of a nationwide day of action by members of Congress that brought together state and federal leaders, healthcare workers, advocates, and Medicaid recipients. The rally aimed to warn of the consequences should Congress approve drastic reductions to Medicaid funding.
Medicaid serves hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable people in our state, including children on the Husky program, people with disabilities, and seniors.
As you can see in the graphic below there are many Stamford residents that will be directly affected by these federal funding cuts. Unfortunately our students are set to lose the most.
Stamford City Schools receive $33.4 million in federal funding
40,915 Stamford residents receive healthcare through Medicaid
13,839 Stamford residents benefit from SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
Energy Affordability
CT House and Senate Democrats are working hard to address energy affordability and utility accountability by voting to pass SB 4 out of the Energy & Technology Committee last week.
The goal of this bill is to improve service and reduce costs for electricity ratepayers in the state.

Mayor Caroline Simmons presented the City of Stamford FY2025-2026 capital and operating budgets last week. The total combined City and Board of Education expense budget and reserve for contingency is $714.2 million.
The budget priorities for this year include delivering a fiscally responsible budget that minimizes the tax burden on Stamford residents while also investing in critical services and infrastructure projects to enhance quality of life.
New proposed investments include:
Funding for 13 additional police officers to bring the Stamford Police Department to optimal staffing levels.
$4 million in capital investments for school safety and security upgrades, district-wide facility equipment and technology,
Enhancements at AITE High School and Davenport Ridge Elementary School, and renovations to athletic fields across the district.
$7 million authorized for road paving this year, maintaining the accelerated pace that has already surpassed the original paving goal of 200 roads by the end of 2025.
$6.4 million for park improvements, including new tennis courts at Scalzi Park, upgrades at Cummings Park, all-season accessible bathrooms, renovations to baseball and softball infields, playground upgrades at Nemoitin Park at Hart School, and enhancements at Northrop Park.

St. Patrick's Day
It was great to join so many family and friends to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Stamford and the raising of the Irish flag in Government Center along with our Mayor and this year’s Grand Marshal, Bridie Barron. We honored both Margaret Kelley and Peter Greene, and congratulations for their commitment to our community and to all both do to support Irish arts and culture in our Stamford community!
Celebrating Women's History Month
Since last year, the number of women in the Connecticut State Legislature has dropped more than 3%. If women make up about half of the population, doesn’t it make sense that they should have an equal voice in decisions that affect their lives? We cannot continue in the wrong direction.
Women bring different perspectives, priorities, and experiences to governance. Diverse leadership and representation lead to more well-rounded policies, which reflect the needs of the entire community and strengthen democracy.
It is very important important to me that I hear from women in the district on legislative issues that affect them so I can represent them as best I can.
