Dear Neighbor,

I write today to express my steadfast support for State Rep Corey Paris. I urge you to watch today's Press Conference in support by LT. Governor Susan Bysiewicz at 11 am.

The widely reported incident regarding ICE activity that happened last week to two immigrant men in Stamford is appalling.

Representative Corey Paris came out in support and shared a social media post about neighbors helping neighbors in light of reports of ICE activity. This was a simple message about being there for one another and having compassion for those who are fearful.

To now see that Representative Paris has been subject to harassment, racist attacks, calls for his arrest, and threats against his family is disheartening for our democracy.

Our multicultural immigrant community contributes in so many ways to the vibrancy that makes Stamford the best city in our state and its growth engine as well. In a city where more than seventy languages are spoken, in a city considered the 16th most diverse nationwide, we proudly welcome people from all over the world to make Stamford their home too.

This is our city, so we need to stand in solidarity with our immigrant community, our fellow residents, and against this existential threat to who we are and what we stand for every day.

As Mayor Caroline Simmons and Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw reasserted yesterday: "In partnership with the state and community partners, we are committed to protecting our community and providing residents with educational resources to ensure they know their rights and how to stay safe."

You can find a link to educational resources for our community here: https://b1c.org/community-resources/

I encourage you all to join me in supporting Representative Paris, condemning the harassment he has faced, and reaffirming our community's shared commitment to supporting our neighbors.

Let’s fight for justice and keep our immigrant community strong by ensuring their right to due process, their right to the American dream, and their right to pursue a path to citizenship.

As always, whenever anything is top of mind for you and I can be of help, please contact me at (860) 240-8585 or email me directly at eilish.collinsmain@cga.ct.gov.

Warm Regards,

Eilish Collins Main
State Representative
