I am proud to join the Bridgeport House Democratic Legislative Delegation in announcing that we have secured more than $25 million in additional funding for the City of Bridgeport, including critical support to help address the current budget shortfall facing our public schools.
This investment reflects the House’s strong commitment to prioritizing education in the budget we passed on Saturday and delivering meaningful assistance to municipalities facing fiscal challenges. Through focused, sustained advocacy by the Bridgeport House Delegation, working in partnership with colleagues across the caucus, this funding will provide much-needed relief to Bridgeport Public Schools and strengthen the city’s overall financial footing.
Some have suggested that Bridgeport has been fiscally irresponsible with its education dollars. Even before this additional $25 million, Bridgeport has operated with fewer resources per student than many surrounding communities. This budget closes critical gaps and will allow the Board of Education to access additional funding through a voluntary state oversight program to address needs in instruction, staffing, and student opportunity.
Investing in education, particularly during the pivotal early years, is not only the most cost-effective strategy we have, but also the most powerful tool to transform lives, revitalize neighborhoods, expand economic opportunity, and lay the groundwork for a stronger, more equitable future for all. |

| The delegation extends sincere appreciation to Speaker Matt Ritter for his leadership in advancing this funding plan and to Governor Ned Lamont for his continued partnership and support. |
