Session Highlights
Below you can find a few photos from this week’s CGA session.

Behind every image is real work — deep conversations about bills, hours of info gathering, and non-stop advocacy to make sure our communities are heard.
Every handshake, hallway chat, and committee hearing counts. The process isn’t always flashy, but this is how progress is built. Let’s keep pushing forward — together.

Rollin' with Rep. Nolan - AARP's Nora Duncan
On this week's Rollin' with Rep. Nolan, I was joined by Nora Duncan, State Director of the American Association of Retired Person's Connecticut branch (AARP-CT).
Nora told me the foundation of AARP helps lower-income adults with housing, work, and financial stability, and engages with the over 500,000 members in our state with education, outreach, and information for relevant topics to people aged 50+ and their families.
Some of their biggest services for members are their tax aid program (that is completely free), their safe driver programs, and webinars on a range of topics.
One initiative I was struck by was helping people understand their options on when to take Social Security. This is a big decision for our older residents, and AARP is here to help you make the right call.
Thank you very much to Nora for joining the show and telling us everything AARP has to offer!

Health Equity Week
This week I had the great opportunity to join advocates with State Representative Josh Elliott & Senator Saud Anwar at the Press Conference for Health Equity Week 2025: Championing Health Equity.Health equity is not a luxury—it is a human right. It is the right to access quality care regardless of your zip code, your income, or the color of your skin. It is the right to live a full, healthy life without being punished by systemic inequality.
This Coalition is powerful because we are united in purpose. And we are not going anywhere. We will continue to push until every community—especially Black, Brown, and underserved neighborhoods—has the resources, respect, and representation they deserve in our healthcare system.
Health equity is justice. And justice cannot wait.
You can see my comments here and watch the entire press conference here.

Meeting with Urgent Crisis Center Leaders This week, I had the meaningful opportunity to meet with Lisa Baxter, Hector Glynn, Elizabeth Gemski, and Gary Steck—leaders in the work of Urgent Crisis Centers (UCCs) across Connecticut. We had an important conversation about the critical role UCCs play in supporting children and teens, ages 4–18, who are facing urgent mental or behavioral health crises.
These centers provide immediate, walk-in care when it’s needed most—no appointment necessary. Ensuring proper and consistent funding for UCCs is essential. Our kids deserve timely, compassionate care, and we must do everything we can to make sure these lifesaving services remain strong and accessible statewide. This is a one of the top priorities for me, and I look forward to supporting this effort however I can.

In New London we are proud to have an Urgent Crisis Center in partnership with Child and Family Agency, which has been a tremendous asset to our youth and the broader Southeastern Connecticut community.
This center provides immediate, compassionate support for children and adolescents facing behavioral health crises, offering a safe and responsive alternative to emergency rooms or law enforcement intervention. By addressing mental health challenges early and holistically, the UCC has helped stabilize families, reduce trauma, and connect youth to long-term care and community resources—playing a critical role in fostering a healthier, more resilient future for our region.
