Dear Neighbor,

Grateful to Step Into the Role of Deputy Speaker!
This past week marked a meaningful milestone as I had the privilege of presiding over a session at the Capitol for the first time in my new capacity as Deputy Speaker. It was a powerful and humbling experience, and I’m sincerely thankful for the trust and support shown to me.

A sincere thank you to Speaker Matt Ritter and his exceptional team for support. I will continue using this opportunity to lead with integrity, advocating for the people of New London and all of Connecticut.

Firefighters Cancer Relief Program Expanded
House Democrats voted Wednesday to make important changes to the Firefighters Cancer Relief Program, including among other things expanding the types of cancers covered to include skin cancer and authorizing workers’ compensation administrative law judges to handle appeals of any denial of benefits.
Taking care of our first responders is always a legislative priority.

Strengthening Healthcare for CT's Seniors

House Democrats voted Thursday to strengthen healthcare for Connecticut's seniors! Among other things, this legislation:
✅ Increases access for vital biomarker testing.
✅ Enhances safety with improved background checks for all nursing home employees.
✅ Establishes a task force to address the specific needs of seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia.
This action reflects our ongoing efforts to support and care for our aging population.

Rollin' with Rep. Nolan - ACLU
On this week's Rollin' with Rep. Nolan, I was joined by Gus Marks-Hamilton, Smart Justice Campaign Manager, and Anderson Curtis, Senior Policy Organizer at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU of Connecticut).

The ACLU has a simple goal: defend the civil rights and civil liberties of every Connecticut resident. This work includes defending key aspects of our rights, including freedom of speech and religion.

Right now, a main focus is providing services to those living with a criminal record.

The ACLU is committed to involving residents who have previously not been involved in the legislative process, teaching them how to craft and submit testimony, meet with legislators, and bring their experience to the legislative process.

We had a frank and meaningful discussion on the disparities our state faces, and the efforts being made to craft a more fair and just society.

To reach out to the ACLU, you can go to ACLUCT.org, email info@acluct.org, or call 860-523-9146.
Thank you so much to Gus and Anderson for joining the show and having a wonderful conversation!

Capitol Visits from the Youth!
This week we had hundreds of youth visit the Legislative Office Building and Capitol.

Students, staff, and some parents came out to advocate for increased funding for public schools. Many of our students spoke eloquently about the importance, the impact and the need for funding in our schools. We had great discussions about Legislative bills, the process, and what goes on in the House chamber.

Thank you to Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie, NL Magnet High Campus Principal Bryan Mahon, Chris Vamvakides Principal of BDJ Multi-Magnet Campus & Mayor Michael Passero for Advocating in Hartford.
