Wrong-Way Detection System Coming to New Haven

September 5, 2025

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced that a wrong-way detection system will be installed in several locations, including New Haven, from September 8 through September 10.

The detection system uses video cameras to detect vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong-way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver that they are traveling in the wrong direction. The system also alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong-way driver on the ramp.

The following locations are included:

  • I-95 Southbound at Exit 59 in Guilford
  • I-95 North and Southbound at Exit 34 in Milford
  • I-95 Northbound at Exit 17 in Westport
  • I-91 Southbound at Exit 8 in New Haven
  • I-91 Northbound at Exit 12 in North Haven
  • Route 40 Southbound at Exit 1 in North Haven
  • Route 15 Northbound at Exit 36 in Stratford
