Hi all,

Last month, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of 25 legislators from across the nation to participate in the National Conference of State Legislatures's Opioid Policy Fellows Program. This yearly program brings together legislators who are leaders on opioid addiction and overdose issues.

Together, my colleagues and I:

  • Built knowledge about new research, policy and innovations;
  • Exchanged ideas and solutions with each other related to opioid misuse and overdose and related issues;
  • Connected with leading researchers and policy experts; and
  • Identified practical information to use in our states and develop action steps
The increase in opioid use disorder across our communities has created an epidemic, with thousands of lives lost each year in Connecticut alone.

As Vice Chair of the Public Health Committee, it's my responsibility to learn as much as I can about these issues and bring the best ideas back to Connecticut so that we might pass better legislation to protect our community. I'm grateful to have this chance to learn, and proud to represent our state in this important national network.

Sincerely,

John-Michael Parker
State Representative
