Dear Neighbor,

The 2024 legislative session officially began on Wednesday. This year is a short session - sine die is on May 8 - and that means we must hit the ground running to achieve our goals.

Governor Lamont presented his State of the State address and his budget proposal. We will now begin working on adjustments and discussions within our Appropriations and Finance Committees and several other stakeholders to have a final document ready before the end of session on May 8.

You may watch and read the governor's full address here

Our next day of session will be held next Wednesday, February 14. You can follow on  CT-N for live coverage, as well as for regular committee meetings throughout session.

On Wednesday, I had the honor to introduce a group of Norwalk students on the House floor. Please click the link below to see my brief remarks.

The South Norwalk Library will host a Black History Month celebration on February 24. The event will include performances from the the Bible Church of Norwalk's praise group, a presentation on Haitian art, a conversation on the historical contributions of Haiti to Black history in America, and more. Lunch will be provided. Click here or the image below to register.

In preparation of Women's History Month and International Women's Month in March, the Norwalk Commission on the Status of Women shared that they are hosting their first annual Norwalk ImpACT Award and are asking the community to help nominate individuals.

The Norwalk ImpACT Award will recognize two outstanding gender equity advocates in the community whose actions have had a positive impact on women, girls and other marginalized members of the community, such as transgender people and gender non-conforming people.

The two individuals include a member of the youth, who is under the age of 18 and an adult over the age of 18. Following the nomination process, awardees will be announced and celebrated at the Commission's regularly scheduled meeting on March 11, 2024, at 7:00 pm.

Members of the Norwalk community are encouraged to solicit nominations by filling out this form and welcome assistance in sharing the attached flyer to help identify nominations. Nominations must be received by February 26, 2024, at 5:00 pm.
