The community turned out in strong numbers for the annual Three Kings Day Parade, also known as El Día de los Tres Reyes Magos, which celebrates the Christian feast of the Epiphany. To commemorate the visit of the Three Wise Men to the baby Jesus, three riders traveled by camel from Park Street to Pope Park, delighting families along the route.
The celebration continued at Arroyo Recreation Center, where organizers distributed toys to children in need, which was touching because this event may have been their only opportunity to receive a gift over the holidays. |
|
| I am grateful to the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA), Catholic Archdioceses of Hartford, and CICD Puerto Rican Parade for their partnership in preserving this cherished tradition. I am especially thankful for the leadership of SAMA Executive Director Julio Mendoza and Board President Angel Sierra, whose dedication help make this celebration an important part of the holiday season for so many families. |
|
| The event was particularly moving thanks to Hartford Fire Department District Chief Mario Oquendo Jr., who dressed as one of the Wise Men. Years ago, shortly after moving to Hartford from Puerto Rico, he was one of the children who received a gift at this very event. Seeing his journey come full circle as a community leader now giving back, was truly inspiring. |

| Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration possible. I hope all who attended had a wonderful time, and I wish everyone a happy new year. |

| I would like to share an important resource that may help lower your energy bill. The Generation Power CT (GPCT) Emergency Energy Assistance Program, formerly known as Operation Fuel, is offering a one-time grant of up to $500 to help eligible Connecticut households cover electric, gas, or heating fuel expenses. You can apply for assistance now through Saturday, January 10. |
|
Households with up to 75% of the State Median Income (SMI) may qualify. Approved applicants can apply their grant toward a future fuel delivery or use it to pay down a past-due utility bill.
To make the most of this once-per-year grant, GPCT strongly encourages households to apply when energy assistance is needed most.
