Election Law Signed, Firefighter Honored, and New Pipeline for Employment

March 9, 2026

We are delivering results in the early stages of the 2026 legislative session. The legislation we passed last month has been signed into law. Read below to find out how we're helping first responders and our elections.

I was proud to honor a Hartford firefighter for his dedication to the community. I'll explain why he was recognized and how his work is making a difference.

There is a new pipeline to meaningful jobs in Hartford. I'll break down how this new initiative helps find and retain skilled workers.

Legislation Signed Into Law

The governor has signed into law legislation my colleagues and I passed at the end of February. Several of these measures revive proposals that fell short last year and now finally move forward. In my previous newsletter, I covered the education and health services bills in the package. Here, I’m highlighting the new laws affecting public safety and our elections.

Hartford Firefighter Honored

It was a privilege to honor Arturo “Artie” Rosa for his unwavering commitment to supporting his fellow firefighters. For years, Artie has proudly served the residents of Hartford and continues to do so as president of Hartford Firefighters Local 760.
Artie's professionalism, strong work ethic, steady leadership, and integrity were instrumental during last year's negotiations to ratify a new union contract. The historic deal delivered long-overdue wage increases, improved benefits, and greater job security for often-overlooked fire crews who make sacrifices to keep our community safe.

The dedication that Artie and his devoted team demonstrate every day makes them an inspiration to so many in our community and a powerful example for the next generation. Thank you, Artie, and the entire team, for your continued service and for always putting our community first.

Hartford Works Creates New Opportunities

A new partnership connecting Hartford residents with meaningful job opportunities could be a game changer for individuals and families seeking greater economic mobility. Hartford Works is a new initiative designed to create a stronger pipeline between local talent and employers, helping ensure that residents can access quality jobs while businesses retain skilled workers in our neighborhoods.
The program includes a new centralized digital hub where job seekers can find training resources, connect with essential support services, and explore job listings in one place. Several major employers are participating in the initiative, include The Hartford, Travelers, and Hartford HealthCare.
