I am happy I joined my colleague, Rep. Cathy Abercrombie at the 11th Annual Autism Day at the State Capitol.

Today, I joined my colleagues for a press conference at MidState Medical Center to help raise awareness of Connecticut's Safe Haven law.

I was honored to share an unforgettable moment with longtime Meriden public servant, Mr. Matthew C. Dominello, his family, colleagues and friends during the dedication of the Meriden Senior Center’s 3^rd floor that what will be known as the Matthew C. Dominello Sr. Community Center.

Governor Malloy just announced that Meriden will be awarded a $100,000 grant to develop plans for remediating and developing clusters of brownfield sites. This effort will not only enhance our community, but will help generate revenue. Meriden is one of six communities receiving brownfield remediation in this round of grants.

In the Record Journal story below, my colleagues and I, weigh in on Governor Malloy’s recent announcement ordering $103 million in emergency cuts. This session we fought very hard to maintain critical funding for our most vulnerable citizens during one of the toughest budget negotiations I can remember. While we realize the governor needs to make adjustments amid bad news in the financial markets, it is extremely upsetting to see that we are back where we started. We will continue to defend our programs and will do everything we can to try to find alternatives to help minimize the impact of any cuts.

I backed a biennial budget package (HB 7061) that provides property tax relief to working families, protects the services that middle-class families rely on, and invests in a world-class transportation system to grow our economy.

I was delighted to join my colleagues and state officials, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Head Start during a reception at the State Capitol. Head Start is a federal program serving communities across the nation promoting school readiness of young children from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Hilda lauded Head Start’s important work, as her son, who attended Head Start several years ago, was screened for special needs and received the necessary support from the program.
