Devon Bridge Rail Upgrades On the Way

November 30, 2023

Connecticut received nearly $2 billion in federal funding to tackle several railroad projects including the eventual replacement of Milford’s Devon Bridge. We need the upgrade for several reasons including faster travel across the Housatonic River from Stratford to Milford. The 118-year-old bridge can get stuck and cause delays from as far as Boston or Washington, D.C.

I spoke at a press conference about the funding and explained the Devon Bridge is an example of why it is important to maintain our transportation system. CLICK HERE to see NBC Connecticut's story that aired earlier this month.

Some constituents have asked for a timeline on the planned repairs and bridge replacement. According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), work on the interim repairs is expected from June 2025-June 2027. Construction on a replacement bridge is slated to take place from October 2030-August 2036.

I welcome the funding, which supports economic growth, and look forward to seeing safer, more efficient, and faster public transportation in our community.
