Learning About Our Superior Court in Milford

February 6, 2025

I had the opportunity to join the Milford Delegation on a visit to the Superior Court for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford, located in Milford. Administrative Judge Kevin Russo hosted Sen. James Maroney, Rep. Kathy Kennedy, Rep. M.J. Shannon, and me while providing a comprehensive tour of the facility and an in-depth look at the court’s daily operations. We had the privilege of meeting with eight of the nine judges who have offices in the courthouse, gaining valuable insights into their roles and the judicial process.
During our visit, we observed a juried forgery trial taking place in the main courtroom, offering a first-hand glimpse into the legal proceedings that unfold within the courthouse. It was an eye-opening experience to see the dedication and professionalism of the judges, attorneys, and court staff as they worked to uphold justice in our community.

The courthouse itself has a rich history. Originally the site of the Milford Police Department Headquarters, the building was converted into a courthouse in 1978 and has undergone various improvements over the years to better serve the needs of the judicial system. Today, the Ansonia/Milford Court hears approximately seven to eight full jury trials annually in its fully equipped courtroom. Additionally, the court handles more than 100 family court trials and hearings each year in separate offices and chambers, playing a crucial role in resolving family law matters and other legal disputes.

This visit provided a deeper appreciation for the critical work being done at the Ansonia/Milford Court to ensure access to justice for residents. I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage with the judicial system and learn more about the challenges and responsibilities faced by those who serve our courts every day.
