As we welcome a new year, several laws passed in the 2025 legislative session will take effect on January 1, 2026.

From my family to yours, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones Happy Holidays. I hope you all have a season filled with peace, joy, and meaningful time spent with friends and family. 

We passed a $500 million emergency response fund during November's special session to support residents facing harmful federal cutbacks from the Trump administration. We stepped up to protect families and keep health care accessible and affordable.

Now that fund is being put to use. This week, the U.S. Senate failed to extend federal Affordable Care Act subsidies. As a result, Governor Lamont announced this week, we are committing $70 million to offset these cuts. This crucial investment will protect thousands of families covered through Access Health CT (AHCT)

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday filled with happiness, good health, memories, and laughter. I encourage everyone to spend time with family and friends, relax, and enjoy all the holiday brings.

Next week, I will hold a community meeting with members of the New Britain delegation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Room 101 at Henry Barnard Hall at CCSU, on Wednesday, October 29th. I will be joined by State Representative Bobby Sanchez, Alderman John McNamara, Board of Education Vice Chair Diana Reyes, and Board of Education Member and CCSU Professor Aimee Pozorski.

With fall comes cooler weather, changing leaves, and a number of new laws hitting the books. Several measures passed during the 2025 legislative session will take effect on Wednesday, October 1. Below is a brief overview of some of these important changes!
