Biography

State Representative Kerry Wood represents Connecticut’s 29th House District, which is comprised of Rocky Hill and part of Wethersfield.

Rep. Wood is dedicated to addressing the issues facing the district, which include a strong public school system, addressing rising costs, protecting the environment, working towards a modern rail and road system, and economic investments that strengthen our economy.

Rep. Wood currently works at New England Retail Properties, located in Wethersfield, CT, and does commercial leasing and sales throughout the region.

Through her extensive experience in business, she seeks to bring innovative ideas to the Capitol to foster economic growth and attract new businesses. Some of those ideas involved investing in a college loan pay-off program for skilled workers, collaborating with Connecticut businesses and bolstering the small business sector through streamlining loans, and addressing rising health insurance costs.

She is also passionate about the schools in her district. Rep. Wood is a graduate of the Rocky Hill Public School system and is determined to obtain the appropriate level of state funding through the education cost-sharing formula, which provides districts with funding to reduce the cost to taxpayers.

In addition to education and the economy, she is a strong environmental activist. She started one of the state’s first organic farms and supports sustainable, local, and organic farming practices. She supports investing in renewable energy like wind, solar, and geothermal. She has decades of advocacy work protecting farmland and preserving open space, including many of the trails that are publicly protected in her district.

Many of Rep. Wood’s family members and friends are current service members or have served. She has been a strong advocate and champion for Veterans issues, including recognizing the Veterans who served in the Vietnam era wars, providing funding to the local VFW, and bringing a record amount of money to the Veterans Campus in Rocky Hill for housing. Between the Housing Authority campus on Willow Road and the Veterans Campus on West Street, Rocky Hill will have hundreds of new affordable housing options for seniors and Veterans thanks to her passionate work in this area.

Rep. Wood is a current member of the Rocky Hill Democratic Town Committee and served as president of the CT Young Democrats.

In Hartford, Rep. Wood will bring her experience, inventive leadership, bipartisanship, and track record of success to make the difficult decisions necessary to fix the state budget crisis and promote safe and productive communities.
