Protecting Victims Of Domestic Violence

April 29, 2016

The most dangerous time for survivors of domestic violence immediately follows the serving of a temporary restraining order. This bill simply removes firearms from the equation during this critical time the 7 days between the filing of the restraining order and the hearing. If the restraining order is not made permanent, the firearm is returned as a matter of course.

Twenty other states, including Texas, give judges the authority to remove firearms when a restraining order is issued.
