October 11, 2024

Everyone deserves to feel safe especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I will share some valuable resources below for those who may feel alone.

Our first responders go above and beyond to keep us safe and to serve as role models for the next generation. Please look below to see how two Vernon police officers and numerous Vernon firefighters are making a huge difference in our community.

The state plans to install new traffic lights and equipment at a number of intersections to improve everyone's safety. Please keep scrolling to see when are where you can expect those changes.

Here are the sections in this week's email:

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
In Connecticut, we’ve made strides to protect survivors of domestic violence by passing critical legislation that strengthens protections and expands resources. From enhanced restraining orders to our state’s Red Flag Law, we’re ensuring that every survivor has the help they need to stay safe.
I will always stand with domestic violence survivors and work to build a future free from abuse. You are not alone.

Firefighters Visit Local School
The Vernon Fire Department visited Skinner Road School to give students an important lesson in fire safety. First and second graders had the opportunity to get close to the fire truck and observe demonstrations in the classroom. It was a great learning experience for the littles ones. Thank you to our brave firefighters for all you do including educating our youth.

Local Police Officers Honored
Vernon is a leader in our state in the fight against driving under the influence. There were only 39 DUI arrests this year. Mothers Against Drunk Driving awarded Vernon Officers Zachary Johanson and Tyler Wallace with the 2023 MADD Award for their work.
The Town of Vernon also received the top DUI Award for municipalities with 49 officers or fewer. Thank you to the entire police department for keeping us safe on the roads.
