I just wanted to share with you a few bills of note that we passed during Wednesday's House session.

With many families in Connecticut facing added financial strain due to rising prices, the legislature went into special session earlier this week to provide some relief.

A bipartisan bill passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Lamont extends the current suspension of the gasoline tax, provides additional funding for energy assistance programs, and continues premium pay for frontline workers.

The Waterbury delegation in the Connecticut General Assembly welcomed the Community Investment Fund 2030 board’s approval of $10 million toward the city's Freight Street Corridor Redevelopment Project.
 

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is utilizing numerous options to assist families across the state access baby formula during the nationwide shortage.

The formula shortage started last fall due to supply chain issues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. It was exacerbated in February when Abbott recalled powdered formula manufactured in its Michigan plant and temporarily shuttered it.

On the final day of the 2022 legislative session, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed SB 350, recognizing Juneteenth as a state holiday. 

The bill now awaits the governor's signature.

Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The day is also sometimes called "Juneteenth Independence Day," "Freedom Day," or "Emancipation Day."

In the House on Wednesday, we passed a historic bipartisan bill aimed at addressing the immediate, intermediate and long-term needs of the children's mental and behavioral health system in Connecticut, a priority during the 2022 legislative session.

Today, the House of Representatives passed an emergency bill, which will ease some of the financial crush on Waterbury residents and working families whose wallets and budgets have taken a hit due to rising gas prices and record-breaking inflation levels.
