Vaping Forum in Branford

October 18, 2019

Lung injuries and deaths related to e-cigarettes continue to rise nationwide as well as several incidents reported here in our state.

While this has raised awareness about the dangers of vaping, there is still much more that people, and especially parents can learn about this growing trend, the health risks associated with it, and how to discourage young people from trying it.

As you may be aware, this past session we passed legislation to prohibit the sale of cigarettes, tobacco products, electronic delivery systems, and vapor products to anyone under the age of 21. We are on the right track to help in combating this public health concern and are committed to working on finding solutions.

I hope you will join me, my colleague Senator Christine Cohen and Representative Sean Scanlon, for an informational forum Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Branford High School to learn more about vaping and discuss the measures we have put in place to combat vaping among our young people.

We will be joined by a Department of Public Health's tobacco expert, a professor from the Yale School of Public Health, and Branford School officials.
