Danbury Rail Line Service Interruption & New Exit Numbers on Merritt

July 23, 2025

I hope you have all been enjoying our finally warm (maybe too warm!) summer weather! It was great to see so many members of our community turn out to watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July - a joyous evening as friends and families watched the stunning show light up our skies!

As we enjoy barbecues with our friends, sunny days at the beach, and outdoor hikes in our parks, summertime also means construction season to maintain and improve our roads and trains. Read on for the heads up on the changes and cancellations affecting us.

Looking ahead to fall and any potential for a special session, I’ll be hosting several coffee morning roundtables in August and September. I hope you’ll be able to join me to discuss your priorities. Stay tuned for details on these coffees and more events in my next newsletter and via my Facebook and Instagram accounts.

I always look forward to hearing from you with any questions and ideas for our towns and state. Please reach out anytime by email at Savet.Constantine@cga.ct.gov.

It's a privilege to represent you.

Warmly,

Savet Constantine
State Representative

Danbury Line Service To Be Suspended

Metro-North commuters should be aware that no trains will be running on the Danbury Branch Line as crews perform vital track work from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 17. The state says there will be substitute bus service during that time frame. CLICK HERE to see the schedule.

The 17-day continuous outage will support track safety and the restoration and improvement of key railroad crossings, including at Kent Road in Wilton. The work is scheduled before Labor Day and the start of the new school year to minimize the impact on travelers.

Normal train service will resume on Monday, August 18.

New Exit Numbers on Merritt Parkway

If you’re on vacation in August, you’ll discover new exit numbers on the Merritt Parkway when you get back into town. If you’re here, you can expect to see crews upgrading and renumbering exits on your drive. The U.S. Department of Transportation spearheaded the change to a mileage based system for national uniformity and also to make it easier for drivers, police, and emergency vehicles to identify locations.

The work begins Monday, July 28 and should finish in about 4-5 weeks.

Traffic Signal Upgrades Coming To Wilton

The state is working to improve everyone's safety along Route 7 in Wilton. The Connecticut Department of Transportation is working with the Town to upgrade traffic control signals at various intersections on Route 7 including:

  • Grumman Hill Road
  • 50-59 Danbury Road (AIG & ASML building)
  • Kennsett Avenue
  • Kent Road
  • Gateway Shopping Center

The new traffic signals will bolster pedestrian safety and accessibility with countdown pedestrian indications, accessible push buttons, sidewalk ramps, and sidewalk connections. This project is still in the design phase.

Cracking Down on Left Lane Camping

Do you ever get annoyed with a driver hanging out in the left lane on the highway, holding up traffic? Here's a big win for public safety:

⚠️Left lane = Passing only
⚠️Lingering = Ticket

It’s straightforward and saves lives by cutting road rage and making our highways run smoothly. Pass then move over - everyone gets there safer.

**Of course, this is for three lane highways, not two (but always good to move over to the right if you have cars lined up behind you!).
