Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Last week, we passed a number of great bills that showcased the best of the legislative process. It was the culmination of months of hard work, strategic planning, and unwavering commitment to our constituents. From drafting thoughtful legislation that addresses pressing issues to building coalitions that bridge political divides to advocating for the public good every step of the way, each stage of the process requires skill, compromise, and a relentless focus on finding solutions. It's why we serve – to make a difference in people's lives and to ensure that government works for the betterment of all our people.
Being part of this process and seeing the impact of our work firsthand is an immense privilege and a constant source of inspiration. It's an honor to deliver results for the people we represent, and I'm incredibly grateful for the trust you have placed in me to fight for your interests every day.

A Commitment to Childcare Affordability
House Democrats have made it a top priority during this legislative session to address the issue of childcare affordability. HB 5002 focuses on making childcare more accessible and affordable for families through long-term strategic investments. This is a significant measure that could positively impact many families in our community.

I am proud to support this proposal, as childcare plays a crucial role in nurturing the growth and well-being of our children while also strengthening the economy by supporting parents and guardians. By improving accessibility and affordability, we are investing in our community's future and providing relief to individuals striving to balance work and family life.

This bill is about more than just numbers; it's about making a tangible difference in the lives of families who deserve access to quality, affordable childcare.

Together, we can ensure that this legislation reflects the needs and priorities of the families it aims to serve.

Vietnam War Memorial Ceremony
I recently attended the unveiling of a memorial in the Hall of Honor for the 616 service members killed in Vietnam. Seeing the names and hearing them read aloud was a profoundly moving experience. Each name represents a life cut short, a family forever changed.
The memorial does an excellent job of honoring their memory, creating a space for reflection and remembrance. The ceremony left an indelible mark, a reminder of the human cost of war that we must carry with us.

Firefighter Advocacy
Last Wednesday, members of the Stamford Professional Firefighters visited our State Capitol to advocate for the health and safety of our first responders. We discussed the critical need for comprehensive cancer coverage for firefighters, who face a significantly higher risk of life-threatening diseases due to the nature of their work.
We also addressed the urgent issue of a statewide ban on PFAS/PFOA chemicals, which are known carcinogens that are present in firefighting equipment. As a legislator, I am deeply committed to championing the causes of our firefighters and ensuring they have the protections they need to fulfill their vital mission.

Husky 4 Immigrants
Last week, I attended an event where healthcare providers delivered a letter to Governor Lamont, Senate President Looney, and House Speaker Ritter, demanding that Connecticut ensures all undocumented youth aged 18 and under can access HUSKY coverage.

Please join us in advocating for access to healthcare for all residents of our state by sending your own letter to our state leaders.

Proposing in CT Article
Yani and I were recently featured in an article from CT Insider "Proposing in CT: From Hot Air Balloons to River Boats, Memorable Ways to Pop the Question." The article reminds me of our special moment and has great ideas for anyone looking for inspiration to pop the question.

Street Co-Naming Ceremony Honoring Hubert T. Delany
My grandfather, Judge Hubert T. Delany, will be honored with a Street Naming Ceremony on his 123rd birthday on May 11. I'm incredibly proud of his legacy and I would like to invite anyone who is in the area to come and join us in celebrating his life and achievements.

Memorial Day Parade
Stamford's Memorial Day Parade will take place on Sunday, May 19th. This is a cherished tradition in our community, and I would love for you to join us in honoring the brave men and women who have served our country.
The parade will start at 12:00 PM followed by a ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park at 1:00 PM. Please note that in the event of inclement weather, the parade will be rescheduled to Sunday, June 2nd.

Bazaar & Fish Fry
I will be joining my colleague and friend, Rep. Paris at the Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for their Mother's Day Bazaar and Fish Fry on Saturday, May 4 . We will be available to share the latest legislative updates and address any concerns or questions you may have for us.

Rx Take Back Day
I would encourage everyone to support the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, April 27th. Let's work together to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting in our communities. By safely disposing of unneeded medications, we can help reduce overdoses, overdose deaths, and drug-related violence.

If you have any issues, concerns, or feedback, I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to email me directly or contact my office at (860) 240-8585.

Sincerely,

Hubert Delany
