West River Kick Off to Black History Month

February 2, 2018

Honoring President Barack Obama's environmental legacy we dedicated the “Barack Obama Environmental Bridge” above Ella Grasso Boulevard next to Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School. The dedication is tied to curriculum.

Ward leaders Jerry Poole and Frankie White spearheaded the initiative.

The bridge was built with state funds in 2006 connecting the school to West River Memorial Park. Thursday afternoon, the first day of Black History Month, a crowd gathered to formally dedicate the structure as the “Barack Obama Environmental Bridge.”
