MLK Celebration at New Haven Museum

January 12, 2024

Celebrate the Yale Peabody Museum’s 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy of Social & Environmental Justice, with the New Haven Museum on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Register to attend here.

The free family programming will include storytellers—Joy Donaldson, Waltrina Kirkland-Mullins, and Clifton Graves—who will share fables, anecdotes, and stories honoring King’s work and testifying to his impact on the justice movement.

Ms. Hanan’s Dance and Beyond will present an interactive performance of cultural dance and drumming from the African diaspora. Kid-friendly activities throughout the museum will be offered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the CT Chapter of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association and other community groups. Peabody Museum’s student educators will display some Peabody specimens and offer a craft.

The celebration will continue for adults and young adults on Monday, January 15, 2024, in the Yale Science Building, O.C. Marsh Lecture Hall, 260 Whitney Ave., with the Z Experience Poetry Slam, an electrifying spoken-word experience that features award-winning, internationally recognized performers and poets. Reception to follow with snacks and beverages.
