Dear Neighbor,

Great news!  A New Haven based social studies teacher was named Connecticut Teacher of the Year, and the Wrong Way Detection Installation project has expanded to include locations in our district.

Julia Miller, a social studies teacher at the Metropolitan Business Academy in New Haven was named the 2025 CT State Teacher of the Year earlier today. In addition to her great work in the classroom, she has also done a tremendous job developing and molding the next generation of teachers.

Please check out this article in the New Haven Register to learn more about Ms. Miller and her accomplishments.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing a wrong way detection installation will take place on Route 15 at Exits 66, 64, 61 and 59 in Hamden, Wallingford, Hamden, and New Haven. This project is scheduled to occur this Monday, October 21 and be completed on Tuesday, October 22.

The Wrong Way Detection System uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong way driver on the ramp.
