During the fifth annual Heating Assistance Awareness Month this November, East Hartford and Manchester are partnering with Eversource to raise awareness of the programs available to help pay or lower heating bills, and keep homes warm this winter.

There will be a paper shredding opportunity on Saturday at the West Hartford Department of Public Works facility at 17 Brixton Street, from 9 a.m.to noon or until the truck is full. This is only available to West Hartford residents, and an ID will be required.

Noted author Laura Stack will be at the Elmwood Community Center Auditorium from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. next Thursday to share "The Dangerous Truth About Today's Marijuana."

It's Fire Safety Prevention Week, and this year's campaign theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home."
