First Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Symposium

October 21, 2025

I spent last Friday with local leaders focused on keeping Connecticut’s schools and communities safe.

At the inaugural Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Connecticut Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Symposium, municipal, school, and law enforcement leadership came together to strengthen collaboration around school safety and targeted violence prevention.

Keynotes from Nicole Hockley (Sandy Hook Promise) and Max Schachter (Safe Schools for Alex) focused on how communities can prevent violence upstream - through connection, behavioral threat assessment, and early intervention - long before a crisis begins.

As we plan for legislative action for the next session, I’m committed to supporting local organizing and prevention planning. Safer schools start with coordinated, community-based efforts - and these conversations were an important step forward.
