Dear Neighbor,

Two weeks ago, we celebrated the freeing of enslaved people who lived in
Galveston, Texas.  They were granted their freedom on June 19, 1865,
after they were discovered by federal soldiers more than two years after
the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed on January 1, 1863.  This
celebration marks the true American Spirit of freedom and the pursuit of
happiness promised by our forefathers.  A celebration not just for one
people, but a celebration for all.  A celebration of the Land of the
Free, and the Home of the Brave.

Today, July 4th, we celebrate the birthday of our great nation.  249
years of liberation from the English.  249 years of freedom!  Yet
enslaved people in America still worked in bondage for another 87 years
until the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.  The enslaved people in
Galveston, Texas worked in bondage over 89 more years after the
Declaration of Independence.  Over 244 years of slavery.  Generations
affected forever!  The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave.

Today, July 4, 2025, we celebrate 249 years as a Nation.  249 years of
blood, sweat, tears, triumph, and glory! We have an opportunity.  We
have an opportunity to make this country live up to its creed.  We have
an opportunity to make these United States of America the great melting
pot that it was designed and destined to become.  We have an
opportunity, but it is up to us to take advantage of this opportunity
and create a change. The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave.

The opportunity is ours to create this change.  With threats to our very
way of life looming soon, we must remain vigilant and aware.  There are
housing shortages, educational cuts, and healthcare funding cuts amongst
many other issues we must face. Our history has shown we have not
cowered down to obstacles that affect our lives - we have risen together
as a nation and come together. No matter our race, gender, ethnicity, creed, color, or background, the good that is within us has risen to ensure that the best of us stands up for all of us. Happy Juneteenth, and Happy Birthday America!  The Land of the Free, and
the Home of the Brave.
