Addressing Opioid Addiction

House Bill 7052 addresses several areas related to opioid addiction including:

  • Encouraging disposal and destruction of unused medication
  • Exploring how to establish a consumer marketing and communications campaign
  • Establishing a real-time online clearinghouse to identify available detox/recovery beds and other treatment programs
  • Assuring insurance coverage for detoxification programs
  • Reducing standard opioid prescribing limits for minors from 7 to 5 days
  • Creating a voluntary non-opioid directive form, so people can choose not to take opioids
  • Creating an opioid fact sheet for practitioners to facilitate face-to-face discussions with patients on risks and signs of addiction

The bill passed 146-0 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
