Legislation I Introduced on Family Court Reform for the 2019 Session

One of the most important avenues that parents have to see their children is through the compliance of both parents with court visitation orders. However, parents often do not follow the court’s direction and that makes for loss of precious time with their children. This bill addresses these compliance issues.

Supervised visitation is unnecessary if there are no complaints of violence, neglect or any other child abuse – it is demeaning and embarrassing for parents that have never abused their children to be supervised while spending time with them. This bill addresses this unnecessary measure that courts take to provide supervised visitation with children that are not in harm’s way.

One of the most important avenues that parents have to see their children is through the compliance of the custodial parent. However, parents often do not follow the court’s direction and that makes the other parent lose precious time with their children. This bill addresses these compliance issues.

Another important issue in the family court system is addressing and controlling parental alienation which is when a parent poisons the mind of a child against the other parent. One measure recognizes the issue and defines parental alienation and the other bill expands mandated reporters of parental alienation.
