New laws starting in October

September 27, 2018

A new season brings new laws. As we look to the beginning of October, we should take note that over 70 new laws go into effect on October 1.

While most are technical, there are a few that are significant:

With expert testimony from Police Chiefs from across the state, the legislature was able to pass this bill effectively banning bump stocks in Connecticut. Bump stocks are an incredibly dangerous accessory that serves no other purpose than to maximize the number of an attacker’s dead wounded.

Public Act No. 18-29

Last year, a gunman murdered 58 people and injured 500 using 12 semiautomatic weapons fitted with bump stocks in Las Vegas. October 1st will mark the one year anniversary of this tragic event.

Public Act No. 18-146

As a part of the legislature’s pro-jobs agenda, we passed this law that cuts the red tape that can often slow businesses in Connecticut down. This bill ensures that business can focus on doing business by expediting permitting procedures by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Public Act No. 18-135

To combat an everyday annoyance, the General Assembly was able to pass a bill that makes it a Class A misdemeanor to intentionally use a blocking device or software to circumvent your caller ID. This allows consumers to have the upper hand against Telemarketers and Scammers.
