Dear Neighbor, 

The 2026 Legislative Session adjourned last week, on Wednesday, May 6th, at Midnight. It was an exciting and productive short Legislative Session, and we passed numerous pieces of legislation to address affordability, protections for residents, and so much more. It has been a true honor and privilege to serve as your State Representative and advocate for the residents of Bridgeport's 124th District.

Advancing Triple Bottom Line Justice

I am thrilled to share that the House and Senate passed HB 5421, legislation establishing a Triple Bottom Line Justice (TBLJ) Pilot Program to support underserved communities through public health initiatives, environmental cleanup, and economic development. 
 

The bill creates a community-driven pilot program focused on improving quality of life by addressing the environmental, health, and economic challenges impacting families and neighborhoods. Through a “Brownfield to Healthfield” model, the initiative will help transform contaminated properties into healthy, safe, and productive community spaces.

This legislation builds on the revitalization at Mount Growmore Hydroponic Farm, Wellness Campus, and Learning Center project in the East End neighborhood of Bridgeport. 
 

Relief for Success Village Residents

Senate Bill 1, the bipartisan budget passed by the House and Senate this session, includes targeted relief for Success Village residents in Bridgeport and Stratford. 

For years, residents at Success Village have faced the consequences of financial mismanagement and deteriorating infrastructure, including extended periods without heat and hot water. The budget measure forgives accumulated overdue tax interest at no cost to the state or the City of Bridgeport, while also supporting critical renovations and infrastructure improvements throughout the complex.

The residents at Success Village have gone through enough, and I am proud to deliver this major win for their community. This measure is going to give residents real, meaningful relief after years of mismanagement.
 

Honoring the Legacy of the Six Triple Eight

The Connecticut General Assembly passed SB 458, which includes designating March 4th as  6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Connecticut. This designation honors the Six Triple Eight, the only all-Black, all-female unit sent overseas during World War II. 
 

The Six Triple Eight were an empowering, strong group of women who dedicated themselves to serving our country during World War II. I am deeply grateful for Dr. Sheila Kearney’s continued advocacy to ensure that the heroic contributions and sacrifices of these brave women are remembered here in Connecticut.
