Medicaid Rally at the Capitol, Town of Vernon Budget Review and Free Tax Filing Help.

Tuesday's Medicaid rally at the Capitol was part of a nationwide day of action by members of Congress that brought together state and federal leaders, healthcare workers, advocates, and Medicaid recipients.  The rally aimed to warn of the consequences should Congress approve drastic reductions to Medicaid funding.

 


Medicaid serves hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable people in our state, including children on the Husky program, people with disabilities, and seniors.
 

As you can see in the graphic below there are many Vernon residents that will be directly affected by these federal funding cuts. Unfortunately our students are set to lose the most.  
  • Vernon Town Schools receive $6.7 million in federal funding
  • 10,475 Vernon residents receive healthcare through Medicaid
  • 5,419 Vernon residents benefit from SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
 
 

Vernon 2025-26 Budget Review


The Vernon Town Council begins its review of the proposed municipal budget this week.  The first of two public hearing is set for Saturday, March 22nd at 9:00 A.M.

Tax season is upon us, United Way of Central and Northeastern CT, in collaboration with The Village for Families & Children and Human Resource Agency Inc., is offering FREE tax filing services to individuals and families in the Greater Hartford, Tolland, and Windham Counties.
 
If your household earns up to $68,000 per year, you are eligible for our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program.

Celebrating Women's History Month


Since last year, the number of women in the Connecticut State Legislature has dropped more than 3%.
 
If women make up about half of the population, doesn’t it make sense that they should have an equal voice in decisions that affect their lives? We cannot continue in the wrong direction.

Women bring different perspectives, priorities, and experiences to governance. Diverse leadership and representation lead to more well-rounded policies, which reflect the needs of the entire community and strengthen democracy.

It is very important important to me that I hear from women in the district on legislative issues that affect them so I can represent them as best I can.

Community Events

Rockville Public Library is among over 100 public libraries nationwide awarded funding by the Public Library Association (PLA) to increase digital literacy using Digitallearn.org resources, powered by a generous $2.7 million contribution from AT&T.

The PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive and the new PLA Digital Navigator Workshop Incentive support public libraries in their work of improving basic digital skills among families and communities. The workshops will utilize DigitalLearn training materials, created in collaboration with AT&T, that are freely available to anyone through DigitalLearn.org and AT&T ScreenReady.

Using the $5,000 that was awarded, Rockville Public Library will help patrons utilize the above resources in an upcoming series of workshops that will be conducted in person starting in February.

Some of the topics for the computer basics classes are: Windows 10, Navigating the Internet, Email. and Cybersecurity. Make sure to keep checking the Events Calendar, as more workshop dates are added.
