Dear Neighbor,

I would like to share some good news with you. I am humbled and honored again. Please take a look at the press release below.

REP. ANTONIO FELIPE AND REP. DERELL WILSON ELECTED CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR OF THE BLACK AND PUERTO RICAN CAUCUS
Representatives Antonio Felipe (D-Bridgeport) and Derell Wilson (D-Norwich) are pleased to be voted in as chair and vice chair of the Connecticut Legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus.

"I am proud to take on this role and push the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus forward. There is much work to do without much time but as I’ve said before, all issues are BPRC issues. I want to thank Senator Patricia Billie Miller for getting us organized and starting in this direction. I am excited to work with Vice Chair Derell Wilson to maximize our impact and focus on how our policies, and especially how our economy impacts the people this caucus represents,"

Rep. Felipe said. “It is a privilege to serve in this Caucus and this role next to our new Chair, Antonio Felipe,” Rep. Wilson said. “The BPRC is one of the most influential bodies in the legislature, and has a responsibility to serve, support, and represent minorities in Connecticut, and ensure that any social or economic impact to them and their communities are beneficial.”

The Connecticut Legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus was formed in 1976 to promote and assist minorities in becoming more actively involved in the political process, attaining political office, and to raise the economic potential for minorities, and empowering the minority community in the state. Rep. Felipe is the House Chair of the Housing Committee and serves on the Appropriations and Education Committees. Rep. Wilson is Vice Chair of the Labor and Public Employees Committee and serves on the Joint Committee and Judiciary and Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committees.

The 2025 Session Has Begun
The 2025 Legislative Session kicked off on Wednesday. I look forward to serving the residents of Norwich again to the best of my ability. My colleagues and I will tackle several important issues over the next five months. It's easier than ever to follow along and get involved. There are several resources you can utilize that will help you stay updated on the legislative process as it unfolds in Hartford.
Here's how you can stay connected and actively participate:
  • The Office of Legislative Research (OLR) provides nonpartisan and unbiased research to members of the General Assembly and their staff. Part of their duties include writing bill analyses, which are summaries of bills in plain language. Click here to check out their website.
  • You can view the Connecticut General Assembly's upcoming events by checking out its schedule on the CGA official website
  • Follow CT-N for live coverage of committee meetings and House and Senate floor debates.
  • You can register to monitor any bill's journey through the legislative process. You can enter the bill number and receive real-time updates by signing up. Stay informed with email notifications whenever there's a change in the bill's progress.

Visit this website for information on how to testify on a bill at a public hearing. Together, we can ensure all voices are heard.

As always, if I can be of assistance, please reach out to me at 860-240-8585 or email me at Derell.Wilson@cga.ct.gov.

Sincerely,

Derell Wilson
State Representative
