Windham Tech Champions

I was honored to welcome Windham Technical High School's state champion boys' basketball team in the House Chamber on Wednesday, where we recognized them for winning the CIAC Division IV title. Their hard work and perseverance not only bring pride to their school but also set a powerful example for future athletes in Windham.

Before their visit to the Capitol, my co-host Dennis O'Brien and I had a wonderful conversation with members of the team on "Let's Talk About It." Standout players Brady Marsh and Colby Dunnack, along with head coach Luke Gildea, reflected on their unforgettable run to the title and dedicated their championship to the people of Willimantic. It's a truly historic achievement because the last time any Connecticut technical high school won a state basketball championship was in 1967.

Their journey was defined by resilience. Colby returned this season after recovering from a broken leg, while Brady battled ankle and wrist injuries in the tournament. Both credited their families, teammates, and coaches for supporting them during recovery. In a fitting moment, Brady broke the school's all-time scoring record during the championship game.

Off the court, Brady and Colby spoke proudly about Windham Tech's strong academic and trade programs. While both hope to continue playing basketball in college, they enthusiastically encouraged students to consider learning a trade, sharing how much they valued their experience in the carpentry program.

Join us in celebrating these outstanding student-athletes on Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m. at a championship parade beginning at Windham Tech and concluding at Jillson Square. We hope to see you there!
