| CT Grown for CT Kids Grant for Great Path Academy |
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture (DoAg) announced $837,900 in funding to support over 20 school projects across the state. These projects are impacting students by increasing their knowledge of and access to fresh, locally grown foods through school gardens, nutrition education, field trips to local farms, and the use of CT Grown farm products for school meals.
Great Path Academy at CT State Manchester, Middle College Magnet School was awarded $35,495 in funding for the school's experimental learning, agricultural technology, and innovation. Great Path Academy connects students to local farms to teach them about the local food system and the process of growing to consuming locally grown produce. The school ensures the use of local produce in school meals and also has an on-campus production initiative, allowing students to have hands-on experience working with local produce.
This funding is a huge win for the Great Path Academy community to continue to learn about and access local produce, and for local farms and farmers partnering with students to share their knowledge and resources with future generations. |

| CTDOT Highway-Railroad Crossing Plans |
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has begun developing plans to improve driving conditions at highway-railroad crossings. In Manchester, plans are being made for the three railroad crossings on Tolland Turnpike near Wickham Park and the East Hartford town line.
The project plans include extending the center and lane lines across the railroad grade crossing, replacing damaged/faded railroad crossing signs, and selective trimming to improve visibility. Design plans are scheduled to be completed in September 2026, with construction beginning in Spring 2027.
CTDOT will use federal funding for 100% of this project. The final project schedule and timeline will be determined by the acceptance of the project and the availability of federal funding. |
