Illing Middle School Receives HVAC Indoor Air Quality Grant
June 3, 2024
The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) recently announced grant awards for public schools across Connecticut through the HVAC Indoor Air Quality Grants Program, including Illing Middle School in Manchester, to make upgrades to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Examples of eligible projects include:
Replacing, upgrading, or repairing boilers and other heating and ventilation components
Replacing controls and technology systems related to HVAC operations
Installing or upgrading air conditioning or ventilation systems
Other improvements to indoor air quality
Illing Middle School was awarded $2,225,808 to replace its rooftop units. Municipalities are required to provide matching funds for the project, based on their school construction reimbursement rate, to support the project costs. This grant represents a 67.86% reimbursement rate, which saves Manchester taxpayers millions of dollars.
Creating and maintaining healthier learning environments for students, teachers and staff is a paramount concern, so I want to thank the Indoor Air Quality Working Group and DAS for helping to enhance the air quality flow and temperatures within in our schools.
