After the Civil War, on May 30 - ‘Decoration Day’ - veterans brought wreaths to the graves of the fallen. In the South, families of freed slaves traveled with picnic baskets to Andersonville prison to honor the Union soldiers who died there.
Heating and utility aid: If you were laid off or your hours were cut, don’t overlook energy programs. You may be eligible, and one application period ends soon.
June 1 deadline for applying for winter home-heating assistance: The Department of Social Services has extended the application period for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program. Residents now have until June 1, 2020, to apply for assistance to help cover this past winter’s heating bills (previous deadline was May 1).
