$20 Million for Crumbling Foundations

July 14, 2020
I write to share some good news. In the State Bond Commission's agenda for the July 21 meeting, they have allocated the fourth out of five installments of $20 million for the Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund. The installment will be utilized by the Connecticut Foundation Solutions Indemnity Company, Inc. to repair crumbling concrete foundations in Manchester and throughout Eastern CT.

I began addressing the issue of crumbling foundations back in 2013, and in 2019 after seeing its effect on the Manchester community, founded the bipartisan crumbling concrete caucus to work on the issue. With this fourth installment of funds, we are able to continue aiding residents with crumbling foundations.

Along with the $20 million for the Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund, $699,000 in funding is also scheduled for approval to provide a grant-in-aid to the Town of Manchester to assist with the underground tank removal and remediation at Gerich's Service Station. The aid will fund required construction in order to open the door to a series of economic development projects on the Tolland Turnpike.

If approved during the July 21 meeting, funds should be directly available within 7 days.
